Mirror FAQ
What is the AussieHQ mirror?
The AussieHQ mirror was established in 2005 as a means to rapidly roll out updates across our server fleet from one central location rather than having each server download from external sources individually. Over time we have made resources available on this mirror to the public at large, and have become official mirrors for some large open source projects including PHP and Apache.
What hardware is in use?
The mirror server runs on an IBM HS21XM blade backed by an IBM fiber attached SAN with no single point of failure. This is the 4th hardware iteration of the mirror.
What sort of network/bandwidth is available?
The mirror server is connected into the AussieHQ data network at 1000Mbps, with an additional 1000Mbps available over PNET.
Why should I use the mirror?
If you are an AussieHQ dedicated server customer, the choice is simple. You gain access to fast local file resources, and without counting towards your traffic allowance if you use the PNET URLs.
If you are not an AussieHQ customer, you may still use the mirror. Our mirror appears on all major peering points within Australia including PIPE in all states, WAIX and Equinix Sydney.
How can I have content added?
If there is content that you would like to see on this mirror, please email mirrors@aussiehq.com.au with the following information:
- Site/project name
- Mirror information page
- Any other information
We will evaluate the suggestion and will let you know what the outcome is.
Why am I getting a 503 error?
We have had some people abuse our mirror by opening up many simultaneous threads for their downloads which can potentially disrupt access for others. To combat this, some of our mirrors have limits to the number of simultaneous downloads that are permitted from an individual IP. If you are using a download accelerator, please use no more than 3 threads or you may find yourself blocked!
